Downton Abbey dine with Ralph Lauren.
Ralph Lauren
has based his global empire on his passion for period aristocratic
style, so it should come as no surprise that he is a big fan of 20s Brit
drama Downton Abbey.
One look at his tweed-littered hunting and shooting-inspired autumn winter 2012 collection
would be enough to suggest the designer was an avid follower of the UK
series, though it wasn’t directly cited as an inspiration.
Last
night the designer and the editor of Vanity Fair Graydon Carter, hosted
an evening in New York with members of the cast, who have become famous
in America after the show’s trans-Atlantic success, offering cocktails
and a special screening of the most recent series, followed by a
Q&A.
Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggat, Elizabeth McGovern (a.k.a. Lady Mary, Anna and Lady Downton) et al. gathered at the Museum of Modern Art, wearing head-to-toe Ralph Lauren Collection (from both the spring summer 2013 and autumn winter 2012 collections) and Ralph Lauren vintage jewellery for the evening, which was attended by members of the New York press.
Our minds are running riot at the potential conversations that were had
at the dinner. Could series four of our favourite Sunday drama be
costumed by Ralph Lauren? We’ve got our fingers tightly crossed.
